Important Dates Fall of your senior year: Ideal time to submit your admission and housing applications. Remember to apply for campus housing after your admissions application has been received. October 1: Deadline for international students to apply for the spring semester. November 15: Priority date to apply for scholarships and deadline to apply for the Honors College. December 1: Deadline to apply for the spring semester. April 15: Deadline to apply for the summer term or the fall semester. Transfer Admission Requirements To be considered for admission to LSU as a transfer student, you must have earned a 2.50 cumulative grade point average on at least 30 semester hours of college work, including mathematics course and an English course. If you have earned fewer than 30 semester hours of college work, you must also meet the requirements for freshman admission and have a 2.50 on all college work attempted. Deadlines for Transfer Students As a transfer student, you will be expected to follow the same application deadlines as all other LSU students. See deadlines listed above. If you submit the Application for Undergraduate Admission after the stated deadline, you will be considered on an appeal basis only. Exceptions will be considered only in extreme hardship cases, and if approved, a late application fee will be assessed. Unofficial Information Best Places to Study- The Parade Grounds, the Library, Cafe Vieux Carre, coffee shops off campus. Most Popular Place to Chill- The Parade Grounds, the Quad, and the Union. Meal Plan average cost is $1,100 per semester. Best Dorms: Campus Apartments, WCA(West Campus Apartments), ECA(East Campus Apartments), the Lavilles(If you can get into Honors College it is worth it because East and West Lavilles are considered to be some of the best dorms on college with the cleanest and largest rooms), the Pentagon Worst Dorms: Herget, Kirby-Smith Miller Hall is known as the "sorority dorm" because of it's proximity to Sorority Row, therefore most girls planning to join a sorority try to move into Miller. All campus residents get free cable, high-speed internet, and access to LSU's Tiger TV. Visit here for more information on Residential Life. Studies have shown that students living on campus earn higher grades than those living off campus (also a big downside to living off-campus is having to drive to campus and find a place to park). Average rent for off-campus housing: studio apt. $600/month, 1BDR apt $650/month, 2BDR apt $950/month, and 3 BDR apt $1,100/month. There are lots of places off campus to live, some only a few blocks from campus. Best time to look for an off-campus place to live is in early spring semester. All rooms and campus buildings are non-smoking. Some favorite night-life spots include: Tigerland Bars, Duvic's, Ivar's, The Caterie, Spanish Moon, The Roux House, SoGo Live (bars close at 2 AM). Check these resources for nightlife: batonrougerocks, also the free independent Tiger Weekly newspaper and the official on campus newspaper The Daily Reveille. There are 21 Fraternities and 15 Sororities, for more information search Greeks. Parking, things you should know: Average parking permit cost $39/year or $20/semester. Every student with a vehicle is required to get a permit. Tags are sent to your home address and they are color coded. Blue-Commuters, Green-East resident students, Lavender-West resident students, Magenta- Greek students, Purple-Law students. Restricted parking ends after 4:30 PM (so students attending night classes may find spots easier). One of the best places to get a parking spot is the X lot behind the Rec Center. Some common parking tissues issued include: Overtime Parking $7, Parking in a Yellow Zone $15, Unregistered $27. Additional parking information can be found at lsu parking. The free LSU bus system, with 12 routes, runs Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 6 PM; night service is provided from 6 PM to 11 PM; as well as a Sunday Shuttle, (225) 578-5000. The bus system runs around the campus and to most of the surrounding apartment complexes. It can be kind of slow, but its free. Weather: The average temperatures are: Fall 79 degrees F high, 57 degrees F low, Winter 62 degrees F high, 42 degrees F low, Spring 77 degrees F high 57 degrees F low, Summer 90 degrees F high 72 degrees F low.
